POL Token – The New Polygon Ecosystem Token

POL (previously MATIC) is the upgraded native token of the Polygon network. The migration from MATIC to POL officially completed on September 4, 2024, marking a new chapter in Polygon's evolution toward a unified, ZK-powered multi-chain ecosystem.

The transition from MATIC to POL was a strategic shift to align with Polygon's expanded GigaGas roadmap and the development of the AggLayer — an aggregation layer connecting multiple ZK-based blockchains under a unified liquidity and security framework.

POL serves as the native gas token of the Polygon ecosystem, powering all transactions, and as a staking token securing the network. Stakers earn rewards and become eligible for AggLayer ecosystem airdrops.

POL Tokenomics

The total supply of POL is 11 billion tokens. The fully diluted valuation (FDV) stands at approximately $1.02 billion USD as of March 2026. The token contract address on Ethereum is 0x455e53cbb86018ac2b8092fdcd39d8444affc3f6.

POL can be added to MetaMask by importing the token contract. Users can trade POL on Binance (POL/USDT), Coinbase, Kraken, and DEXes within the Polygon ecosystem such as QuickSwap and Uniswap V3 on Polygon.
